SAIC Volkswagen ID. ERA 8X: Dual-Chamber Air Suspension with Predictive Damping
The SAIC Volkswagen ID. ERA 8X introduces the brand’s Xingyun digital chassis, combining a double-wishbone front and five-link rear suspension with dual-chamber air suspension and DCC continuously variable damping. SAIC confirms the system is integrated with a VMC chassis-control centre, enabling millisecond-level coordination of braking, drive, steering and suspension.
The ID. ERA 8X appears to share the core Xingyun chassis architecture of the flagship 9X, including dual-chamber air suspension and DCC continuously variable damping. The 8X adds predictive road-surface sensing (“Magic Carpet”) to the package.
On Max and higher versions, the closed dual-chamber air suspension provides 150 mm of height adjustment (+80/−70 mm). The system is combined with an intelligent predictive “Magic Carpet” function that can identify road irregularities up to 15 metres ahead and proactively adjust damper characteristics before the wheel reaches the disturbance.
Vehicle photographs from Auto China also provide a strong supplier indication: the external electronically controlled damper valve hardware closely matches Cijan’s externally valved dampers displayed by the company. Cijan should therefore be considered a likely damper supplier, although I have not found formal sourcing confirmation.
The ID. ERA 8X is scheduled for market launch in China on 12 October 2026
