Multimatic TrueActive™ Damper Technology on Ferrari Purosangue

The Multimatic TrueActive™ Spool Valve (TASV) Damper system debuts on the Ferrari Purosangue as the technology enabling Ferrari Active Suspension Technology (F.A.S.T.). Unlike conventional passive and adaptive dampers, which react to road disturbances and driver inputs, TASV dampers can actively generate force to control the vehicle body.

At the core of the system are two independently controlled spool valves for compression and rebound. A liquid-cooled 48V three-phase brushless electric motor, integrated into each damper, provides additional force through a twin-lead ball screw and gearbox assembly. This supplements the vehicle springs directly through the damper.

Multimatic states that the system can control vertical, roll and pitch dynamics continuously, including centre-of-gravity height and roll and pitch stiffness during acceleration, braking and cornering. It also enables more authoritative control of wheel movement and tyre contact over rough surfaces.

The TASV architecture eliminates the need for conventional anti-roll devices and additional mechanisms for dynamic ride-height and rate adjustment. An onboard motor control module receives commands from the vehicle dynamics controller to optimise handling, stability and ride comfort.
