# Tenneco Plans 120 Job Cuts at Sint-Truiden Plant

Shock absorber manufacturer Tenneco, known for its Monroe brand, plans to cut **120 jobs at its Sint-Truiden plant in Belgium**: 101 manual workers and 19 white-collar employees. The dismissals are expected to be phased between **September 2026 and the end of 2027**. 

The company attributes the planned restructuring to the ongoing difficulties in the **international automotive market**, including high labour costs, strong competition from China and slower-than-expected electrification of the vehicle fleet. These factors are affecting production at the Sint-Truiden site. 

Negotiations on a **social plan** are expected to begin, with trade unions seeking to reduce the number of redundancies.

The Sint-Truiden plant has a long history with Monroe, which opened its Belgian facility there in **1964**. The site covers approximately **54,000 square metres** and supplies components to automotive manufacturers in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and other markets.

The article notes that **shock absorbers remain necessary for electric vehicles**, including heavier premium EVs, while Tenneco's Sint-Truiden facility remains part of the company's advanced suspension network.
