# Mercedes-Benz GLE: E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL and Predictive Damping

The new Mercedes-Benz GLE introduces an upgraded suspension system combining **E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL** with **AIRMATIC air suspension** and new cloud-based damper control. The system is designed to anticipate road inputs and adjust the suspension before the vehicle reaches a bump.

E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL controls the **spring and damper forces individually at each wheel**. Its control units analyse the driving situation **1,000 times per second**, allowing the system to counteract body roll, pitch and lift during cornering, braking and acceleration. Four 48-volt motor-pump units are coordinated by a central control unit, while the system can also recuperate electrical energy from suspension movements. 

The new cloud-based damper regulation adds a predictive element to the AIRMATIC system. Using information about the road ahead, the GLE can **electronically adjust damping before encountering a bump**, rather than responding only after the suspension is disturbed. 

Mercedes-Benz says the combination provides a wide range of suspension characteristics, from the comfort of a luxury saloon to the more agile behaviour of a sporty SUV. The standard AIRMATIC system and conventional suspension have also been retuned with a firmer, sportier character while retaining comfort.
