LABA7 EMA: Electromagnetic Damper Testing for Advanced Suspension Development
LABA7 has introduced an Electromagnetic Damper Test System (EMA) designed for development and validation of next-generation suspension systems. Instead of conventional hydraulic actuation, EMA uses linear motors, eliminating hydraulic oil compressibility and reducing mechanical friction, enabling highly precise and repeatable damper testing.
The system supports semi-active and Continuous Damping Control (CDC) dampers, including real-time electronic-valve actuation and ECU input simulation. New torque-based testing enables measurement of friction, seal drag and constant-force behaviour, while the system can reproduce complex waveforms and import vehicle telemetry for track-specific testing.
EMA provides up to 7 m/s velocity, 40 kN peak force, 250 mm stroke and 20 kHz synchronized sampling, with 50-nanometre position resolution. Its supercapacitor-based power system enables high-power testing with relatively low grid requirements, making the system suitable for suspension R&D laboratories, motorsport and potentially trackside applications.
The system is therefore positioned as a development platform for advanced passive, semi-active and active suspension technologies, providing high-speed testing and detailed measurement beyond conventional damper dynamometers.
